Our land of lakes forever fair
below blue mountain summits,
of swans, of salmon leaping where
the silver water plummets,
of glaciers swelling broad and bare
above earth's fiery sinews ---
the Lord pour out his largess there
as long as earth continues!
- Toast to Iceland, by Jónas Hallgrímsson

In 2008, my wife and I spent our honeymoon in Iceland. We had always had images in our heads of Iceland as a magical place, full of history and astounding geography, but we found a variety of country side and warmness of people that astounded us more than we had ever hoped.
We left with a feeling that something was inherently right about Iceland, and that the people that have inhabited the island for over 1200 years were living a special kind of life, one that our travels gave us only a brief taste of, but one that we will forever hold a place in our hearts, and one that we will hopefully recreate for ourselves.
